How To Heal Acid Reflux For Good

Years ago acid reflux was known as heartburn. Today, it's more complicated than just heartburn and has been labeled as a disease. Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD is the official name but it remains the same digestive disorder as before it was labeled a disease. You'd almost think this was done so the pharmaceutical drug companies could start marketing more expensive drugs to offer a treatment for it.

Notice I said treatment, not cure. There is no pharmaceutical drug company interested in selling any such cure, only treatment for the symptoms because that way they know you'll be coming back to buy more, as long as you're unable to cure it.

Acid reflux medications

There are plenty of drugs you can buy that offer treatment for acid reflux. There are a couple problems with using the, as there always is with any drug. First, the typical medication prescribed by your conventional western doctor will be an antacid medication. These, when used for long periods of time can destroy stomach acids which are needed for proper assimilation of food and it's digestion as well.

The other problem is that while these drugs are intended to neutralize the extra acids, they will eventually put your body into a state of being over-acidic. This makes the perfect breeding ground for parasites, bacteria and viruses to thrive in.

Healing acid reflux

Avoiding medications is the best thing to do and look at treating, then curing it for good. One of it's most common causes is a poor, unhealthy diet. This means animal fats that come from hydrogenated oils. These trans fats and refined sugars not only help acid reflux but add to many more digestive problems.

Cutting out processed foods containing sugars and fats is the first step. Next you need to start eating better quality foods, and foods which can help against acid reflux. Something to provide natural instant relief is organic raw apple cider vinegar. If you don't have that, try baking soda with a little water.

Foods that provide relief are cucumbers, walnuts, brown rice, and apples to name a few. Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables and their juices. Always choose protein like chicken to be baked or broiled never deep fried. At home use extra virgin olive oil and flax seed oil for cooking as these are healthy and provide extra nutrients your body needs as well.

More things to avoid

All sugars and artificial sweeteners and animal fats. Carbonated soda drinks, coffee, black tea, chocolate, alcohol, orange and grapefruit juice, tomatoes and all their by-products. Peppermint and spearmint are also bad.

Lose weight

It;s not just the unhealthy fats in foods that aggravate reflux, but extra unhealthy body fat around the mid-section can cause pressure and cause reflux as well.
